Frustration
The past week has been a really exciting one in many ways. The worship planning team is coming together with great ideas. The trip to Rock with the youth was amazing. I'm looking forward to the sermon series and study groups on the Five Practices of a Fruitful Congregation that will start during Lent. We have two new trustee co-chairpersons. Education is already planning Vacation Bible School.
But then there was this snow today. We had to cancel the Bridge Worship service because the parking lots were not cleared. I canceled service tomorrow as well. But tonight the spaghetti dinner at Mowatt carried on. And from what I hear it was a success. They never even considered canceling it.
Why is it that we let nothing get in the way of some things in our life, yet let the smallest of things block our willingness to do God's will? The last snow, which was much deeper didn't stop people from getting out to go shopping for Christmas gifts. And yet we find reasons not to step out of our comfort zones to share our faith with our neighbors. We are unwilling to change our traditions even in the hope of reaching new believers. People are in desperate need in Haiti, and yet we cannot afford even to help by putting together simple health kits?
I'm discouraged tonight. I didn't like canceling church services, especially when the church ladies at Mowatt didn't see a need to cancel their dinner. It makes me second guess canceling services tomorrow when the snow will have stopped and hopefully the plows will have been out. But we have no guarantee that the parking lots will be plowed at either church. And snow continues to fall. I really don't want anyone else to suffer a broken hip or injured back. Plus, my road hasn't even been plowed yet.
I just wish that we could put as much energy into reaching people with the love of Christ as we do in putting together a church social or a fund raiser.
